Two games were close and could have ended either way, but the other two were closer to one-way traffic. While HLE could not make it over the finish line, it mostly had to do with the fact that Gen.G are simply that good.
The decision of whether or not to back T1 in this contest comes down to how much their improved showing against Dplus KIA means. While it was a solid display, T1 have been struggling more than expected for months now, so it is fair to assume T1 are not the same team from earlier in the season.
On the other side, Hanwha Life Esports are still the same counter-punching team — a style which should not work against any elite squad. Yet they performed against Gen.G on two of the four maps, and knowing how flawed T1 are, HLE could make it work again.
T1 can turn on at any point, but if we look at the bigger picture, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho and his crew have been the better team over the last two months.

This has been plaguing Heo “ShowMaker” Su and his crew’s run through the summer split, so why would it be any different this weekend?
Despite Dplus KIA’s slip-ups, T1 are not in the best shape ahead of this match. They did not look too convincing against KT Rolster in round one of the playoffs, and even less so in their 0-3 loss against Hanwha Life Esports. On the other side, Dplus KIA suffered the same tough loss against Gen.G in the previous round.
If we isolate performance metrics only from the playoffs, T1 comes out ahead, but that is hardly a good enough reason to take their side of this contest. Dplus KIA remain a competitive team who have to figure out their late game, whereas T1 are just sloppy and look very vulnerable.
This could be a very competitive game that extends to five maps.

]]>T1 and KT Rolster will meet on the Summoner’s Rift on Saturday, August 23, in the first round of the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) 2024 Summer Playoffs. They last clashed in the sixth week of the regular season, when T1 won, and according to the LoL betting odds, the rematch should end no differently.
Top League of Legends betting sites have priced T1 as -357.14 favourites, which should not come as a surprise. Even though the reigning LoL world champions did not have the most stable run through the regular season, they found more momentum in the final stages, beating OKSavingsBank BRION, Kwangdong Freecs, and BNK FearX.
KT Rolster placed fifth in the regular season with a 9-9 record, slightly worse than T1. More importantly, they won two of their last three series as betting underdogs against Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports.
KT Rolster typically do well against stronger teams, while they underdeliver when heavily favoured. It didn’t help them defeat T1 in their last meeting; however, at -111.11 to keep the series within one map, the outsiders are worth a look.
T1 have a significantly higher ceiling than KT Rolster, which they proved in May when Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and co. won the Esports World Cup 2024 in Saudi Arabia. Still, they enter the LCK 2024 Summer Playoffs in shaky form.
KT Rolster have posted solid performance figures this split, especially if looking at only their games against top opposition. While this is still T1’s game to lose, this version of T1 is one of the worst we have seen since this lineup came together.

T1 had an excellent start to the regular season and looked like legitimate LCK 2023 Summer title contenders, but it all came crashing down in the fourth week when Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok took a four-week break with an arm injury. Without Faker, T1 would go on to win just one of eight series, but they quickly bounced back upon the mid laner’s return.
The three-time LoL world champions continued their resurgence into the playoffs, beating Dplus KIA (3-1) and KT Rolster (3-2), but proved to be no match for Gen.G (2-3) in the upper-bracket finals.
Overall, T1 have looked good, but despite their improvement and a 1-0 head-to-head lead against KT in the playoffs, Faker and co. enter this match as underdogs. On the one hand, it makes sense since KT Rolster didn’t play particularly well in their first meeting with T1; however, T1 have looked excellent in their three playoff games, suggesting they’re back in top form.
As with any edition of the Telecom Wars, this should be a very entertaining affair. On paper, there’s no clear favourite to come out ahead; however, if we ignore T1’s regular-season slump and focus solely on what they’ve shown in the playoffs, they shouldn’t be priced as underdogs.

?T1 looked terrible without Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, winning just one out of eight series while he was out with an injury. But as soon as the superstar mid-laner returned, T1 claimed back-to-back wins, albeit against Kwangdong Freecs (2-0) and Liiv SANDBOX (2-1).
Evidently, T1 are a much better team with their shot-caller on the Summoner’s Rift, but seeing them priced at -227.27 against Dplus KIA might be a bit of an over-exaggeration.
Dplus KIA haven’t looked too good this season, and they might not seem like a threat to win the LCK crown. But this squad is capable of much more than it has shown so far this year.
T1 and Dplus KIA have very similar stats across most performance metrics, and even if we compare the individual talent on the two rosters, it’s hard to pick a side. The numbers are skewed due to T1’s slump, but the eye test proves there isn’t much to separate the two squads.
T1 won against Dplus KIA in the fourth week of the regular season, but that was when Dplus were figuring things out, and it wasn’t until the final two weeks of the split that Dplus started showing some improvement.
Dplus KIA might have the tools to be great, but they’ve yet to put them to good use – and there is no guarantee that it will happen in the LCK 2023 Summer Playoffs either. Still, giving T1 a 69.4% implied probability of beating them is absurd.

The first two games that T1 won lasted 25 minutes, and the first four included several aggressive plays by both teams. The last match, on the other hand, ended much later and went beyond 42 minutes. It also did not feature any kills by either team until the game reached the 25-minute mark.? ?
The game ended with T1 moving on to the LCK Summer Finals, where they will take on Gen.G, who had earlier defeated Liiv SANDBOX by a 3-1 scoreline in their semifinal. That result was a bonus for Gen.G, who had already locked away a spot at Worlds with consecutive top-two finishes in this year’s LCK splits.
?The 2022 LCK Summer Finals will feature T1 and Gen.G going head-to-head against each other on August 28. The duo previously faced off in the grand final of the 2022 LCK Spring Split, where T1 emerged with a 3-1 victory and a place at the Mid-Season Invitational.
If T1 win the LCK 2022 Summer Finals, they will qualify for Worlds as the top-seeded team out of Korea. If they don’t win, they will still have enough championship points to qualify for the World Championships group stage.
Despite the loss in the semifinals, all is not lost for DWG KIA. The team can still qualify for Worlds through the LCK regional qualifier, where they are set to face SANDBOX. The winner of that game will progress to the Worlds group stage, while the loser will face either KT Rolster or DRX for a spot in the play-ins.
The winner of the LCK Summer Finals next Sunday will be Korea’s top seed at Worlds, and the loser will represent the region as the second seed. BetOnline has Gen.G as the likely winners of the deciding series, with odds of -196.08.

SANDBOX kept their hot streak alive on Wednesday when they took down DRX 3-1 to take one step closer to claiming their first LCK title. It marked the team’s sixth consecutive victory, having already beaten DRX (2-1), DWG KIA (2-0), KT Rolster (2-1), T1 (2-0), and Fredit BRION (2-0) to finish the regular season.
But, once again, Liiv SANDBOX had it easy. Although they have been playing well over the last month, none of their victims had a good game. Indeed, SANDBOX’s quarter-final victory had more to do with DRX’s poor drafting than anything else.
It is tough not to feel excited about Liiv SANDBOX, but they have met their match here. Gen.G are by far the strongest Korean LoL esports team and – unlike most other squads – far less prone to making mistakes. They’ve won all but one game this split (17-1) and have dropped just 12% of the maps played (35-5).
This is a perfect match for Gen.G, who will be able to take advantage of Liiv SANDBOX’s over-aggression and punish them for it. SANDBOX can win a map, but anything more would be a massive disappointment for the regular-season champions.

It’s hard not to be impressed with what KT Rolster have achieved this season, but everything is relative. Although they improved upon their spring showing (7-11) by ending the summer split with a 10-8 record, it feels like KT are one of the most overhyped teams in the league.
Rolster played well across the last few weeks of the regular season, and they even took a map from Gen.G (1-2) on Saturday. Nevertheless, to say they stand a chance against DWG KIA in a best-of-five series is a bit too optimistic.
DWG KIA have managed the same record this split (10-8) as KT Rolster and have won just half of their last six outings – like KT – but this team has a significantly higher ceiling. It’s also important to note that Heo “ShowMaker” Su caught COVID at the start of August, which explains why DWG have struggled a bit across the last couple of weeks.
But regardless of how equally matched the teams may look on paper, this is DWG KIA’s game to lose. ShowMaker and Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu are one of the best mid-jungle duos in the world, and with the meta shifting back to Herald control, it is tough to find a better trio than ShowMaker, Canyon, and Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon running around the top side.
A moneyline bet on DWG KIA is not a bad choice, but we are after a higher payout, so we’ll trust the former world champions to take down KT Rolster with at least two maps to spare.

Liiv SANDBOX enter LCK 2022 Summer Playoffs as one of the most exciting teams to watch. They weren’t expected to achieve much this split, but they turned on their jets in the latter half of the season and stormed into third place with a 13-5 record and a five-game winning streak.
Over that run, SANDBOX have won against DWG KIA (2-0), KT Rolster (2-1), T1 (2-0), Fredit BRION (2-0), and DRX (2-1), who they defeated at the end of July. But we would be careful not to overreact to that impressive run and ignore the bigger picture.

It is easy to ride the hype train and believe Liiv SANDBOX are one of the serious candidates to win the league, but that is far from the truth. They have picked up a few upset wins and have done well, but they’re a bit overhyped.
The main reason why we are not too excited about backing SANDBOX is their insane aggression, which can easily turn around and bite them. On the other side, we’re not big fans of DRX either, and we have a hard time believing they can take care of business due to the sloppy approach to their games.
We saw DRX lose against Hanwha Life Esports (1-2) on Sunday, and they were no match for KT Rolster (0-2) three days prior either. But we have also seen DRX produce some good games this split, so it comes down to which version of DRX we will see on Wednesday.
Even though we believe Liiv SANDBOX are overhyped, there is nothing that would suggest DRX can win. Assuming Liiv SANDBOX do not play too confidently and shoot themselves in the foot, there is a good chance we are in for a clean sweep.
